Today's weather is strange, making one wonder whether or not the Chinese government is preventing rain or not for real during the Olympics.
The air is wet....humid as all get out, yet there has been no rain. It should be raining....yet nothing is falling from the sky. Crazy technology eh?
I was going to go rock-climbing today, but decided to give myself one more day's rest before mounting the wall again. Instead, I'm sitting in a cafe translating a Chinese Economist article about the use of stun-guns over the past ten years. The website I use for the Chinese Economist is really interesting: it's a database of actual Economist articles in English that Chinese students have translated into Chinese. Therefore, each article may have two or three translations, so one can compare and contrast them against one another.
Since I'm using the website to learn, I am therefore translating the articles back into English while reading through them. It takes a while, but I am learning some good vocabulary and grammar along the way.
There's a link to it on my homepage, but here is is incase anyone wants to see it:

Hi Ben,
Hearing so many Americans' limited view of China, China really needs Americans, representing American companies or organizations who can liaison and bring America closer to China. You are so valuable to the Chinese, like a hope of all other Americans that will bring their organizations in a happy involvement with China. Especially, as China continues to grow internationally. I know you will share so much with even the American's visiting the Olympics - you will help them better understand the Chinese - I know they are impressed beyond belief already. How much more you can bring other American interests to share the best with China, too, and have them see the benefits of including China in our development, too. I meant to include that before. China needs American friends at the "World's Table" - they need compassionate friends like yourself!
Love,
Hilary
